Cattle Country

We were up and out into the bush early today in search of the fabled Mayanja River, deep in cattle country here in western Uganda. On foot and in the 4×4 for eight hours, everyone kept saying “Kafu”, Kafu River. Finally we located a local herdsmen that said he could take me to the Mayanja, a river that the Bakers crossed over during their trek towards Lake Albert. As the local needed to make the hike of three hours there and back to get his daily water for the family, he gladly walked me there and back. He spoke a local Joloro dialect, I spoke my bad English. Along the way he pointed at objects and gave me their local name, I replied with the English name.
