Moses (my guide) and I headed back out today to pick up the trail where we left off. At the River Mayanji we cut through the bush towards the Fort Portal Road. The route required countless discussions over our map with locals who were ever so helpful. Along the way I joined a long line of dancers with drums and other assorted musical instruments. I am really not sure where they came from nor where they were going. I walked with them for about a mile before they quite simply turned off the trail and disappeared back into the bush. They never missed a beat with their drums and sang songs in perfect harmony, like wild birds of nature.
After I reached todays trekking goal post, on my way back into Hoima town, I befriended a band of moonshiners perfecting their local brew. They were tucked off the dirt road in a ditch with only a drizzle of water (it is, after all, the dry season). If I had blinked I would have missed them altogether.
Along the way as I crisscross Uganda I am so fortunate to encounter a wide variety of daily shopping options as well as distinct landscapes!
