Journey America Part 2

I am a Long Rider

I want to take a moment to thank the Long Riders Guild and all of the extraordinary Long Riders who have helped me these past 5 years!

When I was a child, it was Aime Tschiffely’s book, “Tshiffely’s Ride,” that made me dream of one day setting out on my own equestrian journey.

That brave Swedish schoolteacher changed my life!

When I was in my second year of Journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto, that lifelong dream became a real project. The first thing I did while planning my own adventure was contact the Long Riders Guild to ask for help. In the following two years I spoke to Long Riders around the globe to properly learn how to travel on horseback. I knew how to ride and how to rope! But I had no idea how to travel with these majestic animals.

The Guild armed me with the know-how and tools needed in order to successfully pull off these arduous journeys.

Long Riders Cuchullaine and Basha O’Reilly, were my first professors! They shared their rich knowledge with me and put me in touch with other explorers.

Before I departed CuChullaine lent me one of the most important tools I would use – The Canadian Adjustable Pack Saddle from Custom Pack Riggin. He also trusted me with the Long Riders Guild flag. A true honour!

In the following years while I rode to Brazil and now to the end of the world, the Guild and CuChullaine continued to support me in many ways.

I will never be able to thank all of the Long Riders who helped me enough! Without their aid, love and knowledge I never would have made it.

I am a member of the Long Riders Guild. I am a Long Rider.
