Journey America Part 2

Tres Arroyos

My new friend Josema from Chavez is a man of his word. He promised to ride out with me while we were out drinking and he kept that promise.

“Told you we would ride with you brother,” he said with a smile on his face.

Alongside Josema and Mariano, another friend from Chavez, we rode 40 kms towards Tres Arroyos. It was an amazing day! We laughed the entire time, told jokes, stories and enjoyed each others company. Riding with friends is a million times better then riding alone! The day seems to fly by. I love it.

“Have you ever seen a drunk Armadillo,” Josema asked stepping off his horse.

He ran towards an Armadillo walking in the grass and grabbed the animal by the tail. Holding the tail with his right hand, he began spinning it around and around clockwise. After a few seconds he let it go and the Armadillo ran off in zig zags and jumping every few feet.

“Now you have,” he said laughing.

In the early afternoon we rode into Tres Arroyos crossing a beautiful river. We made our way to the rodeo grounds where the horses were allowed to rest that afternoon. I got a ride back to Chavez with Josema’s father who drove to pick up the Josema and Mariano’s horses and then Josema drove me to Juarez to pick up the support van. I had left it at Rodolfo’s house a few days earlier.

“Thank you so much for all of your help and for riding out with me,” I said to Josema before saying goodbye.

He took off his straw hat and gave it to me. “I want you to have this hat to remember me,” he said handing it to me.

“Okay, then here you take mine,” I said giving him the hat I had left Barretos with.

I arrived back in Tres Arroyos at night and got everything ready to ride out the next morning.

When I woke up and went to move the van to a location where I could leave it while I rode towards Coronel Dorrego, it wouldn’t start. Turns out the starter broke and I ended up having to stay an extra day in Tres Arroyos while it got fixed. Ended up costing me an arm and a leg and valuable time… Out here the problems never stop.
