For the past 14 months I have lived with the bare minimum. Everything I own must fit in my pack saddle and be light enough for my horses to carry. Two pairs of jeans, 5 button-up shirts, 4 t-shirts, 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of shorts, an ipad, and a tent. This is pretty much all I own.
Am I happy? Probably happier than I have ever been. Do I miss some of life’s basic luxuries? Dearly.
I miss….
Those lazy sunday mornings where sleep is all you worry about. The smell of my bed sheets. My BED! Tim Hortons coffee and everything bagels with cream cheese. Having a place to call home. The changing leaves of fall. Warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Being able to drink water out of the tap. Always having a place to charge my phone. A warm shower or a shower period. Sushi. Clean clothes. My family, girlfriend and friends – This is what I miss the most.
Being on the road for a long period of time teaches you to appreciate the little things. In this life we live, we tend to take the best parts for granted. When you slow everything down you are able to see what you were missing to keep up with the rat race.
