La Zona

Tired and sore from our adventure getting into Honduras, the ponies and I rested in the small village of La Zona. In a beautiful pasture with a million dollar view, the horses grazed while my new friends took me to Entrada.

The small town is a hub for all of the little villages in the area. While I was there I took the opportunity to buy a chip from Honduras for my phone and to take out money. After my tour of Entrada, I was taken to meet the mayor of La Jigua – the municipality La Zona belongs to.

“We are very pleased to host you here in La Jigua Filipe,” Mayor German Guerra Echeverriatold me over a delicious lunch.

After eating German took me to see a new park being built for the community. He believes it will give the small town a greater sense of community.

“This park will be the most beautiful here in Honduras and I know it will bring many people together,” he told me as we looked over the construction site.

After a great afternoon seeing the region, we went back to La Zona where I ate dinner with my new friends and organized a ride out for the next morning.

“Filipe tomorrow around 30 Vaqueros will accompany you to Sula, your next resting point,” Froilan, my host told me.

This sounded like music to my ears! I thanked my new friends for all of their help and hospitality. Without them entering Honduras would have been a lot harder.
