I couldn’t be at a better place right now.
After almost 4 months on the trail we have travelled more than 2,000 km’s. My decaying boots carry dirt from Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and now, New Mexico.
My mind is full of stories and faces I will never forget. It has been a very special journey thus far!
One of my favorite parts of the trip has been bonding with the horses. Leaving Frenchie and Bruiser at Copper Spring Ranch a few weeks ago was very hard. Since my departure from the Calgary Stampede, we had gone through so much together. We were a unit!
As scary as continuing without them seemed, it offered me an amazing opportunity to meet two new horses and bond with them. When I first started riding these ponies lent to me by Copper Spring, they were afraid of everything – they had never left the Ranch before. Bridges, rivers, cars, guard rails…. everything freaked them out.
Well together we rode hundreds of kilometers through Southern Wyoming and Colorado. We even rode one of the most dangerous roads in the world – The Million Dollar Highway. I’m so proud of these horses!
Having just entered New Mexico, I am very happy to announce that Frenchie and Bruiser are back! Justin Marquez hauled the boys to Bloomfield from the Montana! I can’t thank Justin, Brian Anderson and Copper Spring enough.
I’m so excited to have my boys back with me. They both look so good! The weeks they had off recuperating from their injuries did them well. Together with Texas, the four of us will move South East towards Cuba, NM. This next section of the journey will be a challenge due to the terrain. New Mexico is very dry with little grass and water. We will ride the desert…
November 1 is my birthday so I’m hoping to find a place to leave the horses near Albuquerque so I can celebrate in Santa Fe!
